Few friends and I went to Big White for Christmas to get away from the place we lived, which we all are bored and tired. We took HWY 5 passing through Hope, Merritt, and Kelowna.
When we drove through Merritt, the highway was full of snow and ice. That was quite a view, because I thought this winter is warmer; except the storm warning in November, which brought us 40-50 cm of snow. Anyways, the one way trip to Kelowna was about 3 hours from Surrey through HWY 5.
We totally forgot that nothing is going to open on Christmas day; therefore, we brought almost nothing to eat, which leads to trouble. After unpacking our stuff in hotel, we rushed out and wondered around to look for FOOD. The only shops opened were Denny's, MacDonald's, Starbucks, and Mac's, but they all were closed early at 4pm. Oh well, we had no choice. :(
Early next morning, we drove another 56km to Big White from Kelowna. Compare with Whistler, Big White is wider rather than high. The full range of trails/routes from green to balck amazed me. They also got snow-in, snow-out lodges ! Another is that thier rental facilities, and lessons are detail listed and well orgnized. One thing that we all notice is that most workers are from Australia or New Zealand. The ticket price is a bit pricy though; $65 for day skilling, $70 for full day.
When we off the mountain, it was heavy snowing like crazy;
therefore, it took us another 4-5 hours to get back home.
That was a wonderful Christmas.
Thanks all ! :)
BEER!
